Memphis Zoo Keeper Bitten by Tiger

The keeper received a bite injury to the upper right calf when he came in contact with Kumari, one of the Zoo's three-year old Bengal tigers. The incident occurred in an enclosed, off-exhibit nighthouse before the Zoo opened at 9 a.m. The tiger remained secured in the enclosure throughout the incident, and the tiger was not harmed. The keeper was transported in non-critical condition to a local hospital. The Zoo has begun a full investigation of the incident. The Memphis Zoo, located in Memphis, Tenn., is home to more than 3,500 animals representing over 500 different species. Recently named as the top zoo in the country by TripAdvisor®, the Memphis Zoo has completed over $77 million in renovation and expansion since the early 1990s.
